Smart Antenna Designs, Simulation & Test Services

sMART-2, a unique smart antenna system designed by LYNwave and Adant, provides reliable and fast WiFi at the right cost on different fields such as the residential market.

It can automatically adjust the antenna radiation pattern to achieve:

1. Whole wireless coverage

2. Strong resilience to interference

As it has same level of benefits in the 5 and 6GHz bands, the key benefits are as follows:

1. No additional BOM cost with respect to passive antenna systems
→ Low cost comparing to traditional smart antenna

2. Full 3D coverage (same floor, multi-floor)
→ No holes in coverage (with passive antenna holes recovered)
→ “Set it and forget it” (which users don’t need to twist the AP to make it work well since AP performance is independent from orientation)

3. 30% average throughput improvement at low RSSI (where it matters the most)
Significant advantage in multiclient conditions especially for lower performance clients

4. Up to 3X throughput vs. range with interference

It is simple to integrate with one antenna per RF chain (same as standard systems), one additional SMD chip (provided by LYNwave) for each pair of antennas, and SW module patch uploaded to WiFi chipset’s SDK (provided by Adant).

LYNwave not only provides the actual PCB antenna units, but also provides printed design on the device’s main board as a service to save cost. With RF optimization services also provided by LYNwave, sMART-2 achieves truly isotropic coverage by combining different radiation patterns. Antenna placement, cable routing and full RF characterization are all considered thoroughly as well. 

Different optimization goals can be programmed in the smart antenna drivers:

 – Prioritize selected clients
 – Min-throughput guaranteed

Our partner, Adant, uses their patented automatic learning algorithm selects the optimal radiation pattern per packet to achieve maximum channel capacity and minimum interference, which is optimized for low training overhead and minimum computational resources.

The solution is fully compatible with all Wi-Fi spatial modes such as SU-MIMO, DBF and MU-MIMO. OFDM is validated, porting to Q4-19 released 802.11ax.
